Creepy Bisbee Dolls

The antique stores in Bisbee possess a remarkable collection of wretched old dolls and toys. These photos are from my December, 2009 visit.

I’ve always loved Bisbee, with all its surreal energy and creative folk. I’m not surprised that these particular dolls have chosen to gather there.

I asked my friend Jewels Ramsey, “What should we make a song about?”

She replied, “Whatever tickles your pickle.”

Three hours later, this song was complete. It’s purely improvised, and features Jewels on chicken and background vocals. Well, as much as chicken sounds can be called “vocals,” anyway. Bawk!

This song, featuring the lovely voice of Becca Weinstein and the Celtic harpwork of Kephart Taiz, is an eerie, pretty, strange creation that brings some real magic into the room.
